Fifth Thursday Dances

When there are five Thursdays in a month, the Swinging Stars and the Gadsden Whirl-A-Ways get together for a special 5th Thursday dance. But, we need bigger dance hall than either club’s regular place. So, please e-mail me regarding 5th Thursday dance locations. Usually we dance those at the First United Methodist Church (click for map) in downtown Anniston, or in Gadsden at the Senior Activities Center at 623 Broad StreetHere are some pictures from a 5th Thursday Dance.

Benefit Dance for United Cerebral Palsy

The Swinging Stars were founded in January, 1978. The following year the club sponsored a dance to benefit United Cerebral Palsy. We have continued that tradition for 24 years. This is our largest dance of the year. In 2001 over $1,500 was raised at our UCP dance (see pictures here).  All of the money goes to the East Central Alabama Cerebral Palsy Center, which services the needs of children and adults with not only cerebral palsy, but also epilepsy, autism, spina bifida, down syndrome, mental retardation, and other neurological dysfunctions. This center in downtown Anniston provides services in 8 Alabama counties. The last 12 years the dance has been held at the Oxford Civic Center

This year our United Cerebral Palsy Benefit dance will be August 17, 2002 once again held at the Oxford Civic Center.

To send a donation directly to UCP of East Central Alabama, call them at (256) 235-2388 or  e-mail them.  This is a very worthy cause that we gladly urge you to support.
